you filthy animal

merry christmas

We’re off to Colorado tomorrow morning to spend a week up in the mountains doing presumably mountain things. Mostly eating, sleeping, relaxing, laughing and other things that end in -ing. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas wherever you are and I’ll see you in 2013!

gold kicks.

I’m not even going to pretend that I’m not obsessed with my new sneaks. I won’t. I would wear them everyday if I could. I mean, I basically do. I feel like a way more gangsta version of Dorothy in these and if I clicked my heels I’d go straight to badassville. And yes, that is a real place. I nearly passed out when I saw these shoes online and then a few days later I had wandered into Michael Kors and out with these. I have no idea how it happened but it’s the best thing that has happened to my shoe collection since my platform Vans in ’00. I kid, probably since my gold Etta’s. Yes, I love gold. Sue me.

When I wear these amazing pieces of craftsmanship, I usually try to keep the rest of my look more neutral and this herringbone sweater and toggle coat is a great way to say “I’m casual, but I like to party”. If you think you too cannot pull off this look, you are mistaken.

And like, it’s okay, we can all be jealous of my hair in this one.  Honestly, it’s the cut. Rachel is amazing and you ALL should go to her.

I promise I’ll do some fancy hair tutorials in the New Year so you too can have hair like this. Trust me, it used to be an afro. And then one time I cut it all off and cried the whole of the 7th grade. I blame my mother even though it wasn’t her fault at all.

If you haven’t heard of minted, you’ve probably been living under a rock. I’ve been getting my stationary and holiday cards there for years and I love them. For the month of December they’re working with Every Mother Counts, a campaign founded by Christy Turlington Burns to increase education and support for maternal mortality reduction. If you’re anything like me, you have no shortage of friends having babies and these are some of the cutest prints I’ve seen. Fifty percent of all proceeds for the month of December will go towards the project so it’s like 100% guilt-free shopping (Mindy, if you’re reading this you’re getting one for Blakelie!).

Also, if you’re in need of any last-minute gifts for those a bit harder to shop for you should hop by their gift ideas. I cannot recommend the stationery enough and they have it in custom shapes with the prettiest scalloped edges!

fancy pants

It’s true. I promised more fashion and here it is. In my fancy pants.

Also, I would like you all to know that this entire outfit cost less than $200 (because the bag was a gift). That’s like, unheard of where I come from; the land of the non-sale shopper. And that sweater is the best thing ever. I’m getting it in gray and I don’t even care what anyone thinks.

Ps – those pants are really warm and they’re like $20 in the store.
