let’s talk comments

Last night Danielle tweeted something that I have been thinking about for a while now: comments left on your blog. Don’t get me (or us) wrong, I love comments. I love reading what you all think about my posts and similar situations you’ve found yourself in. Most of all, I like knowing that not only my mother reads this blog.

But what really pisses me off is when I put a lot of thought and time into a post and then some douchewad comes and essentially posts about them self. “Please follow me back and don’t forget to enter my giveaway”. Really? No.

When you comment on a blog you should have a real comment. Generally mine are somewhat humorous, Lara can attest to this, but they show that I’ve read the damn post. Don’t want to read the whole post? Then don’t freaking comment. It’s rude and doesn’t help to build a good rapport with the blogger as a legitimate follower.

I’ve been getting more and more of these comments lately and I’m tempted to delete them because they’re just sad and I don’t think that essentially spamming bloggers should be a way you get more traffic to your site. You think that’s mean? Well screw you. I work really hard and spend a lot of time following bloggers I love and leaving meaningful comments hoping they might one day read my blog or their readers might (assuming they were into my comment. Again, no shameless self-promotion).

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that you aren’t helping yourself by the senseless commenting all over the blogosphere, but merely solidifying your status as an annoying spam blogger. But hey, if that’s what you’re into. Just please do me a favor and don’t bring your giveaways and pleas for following around here.
