Yesterday was my first official day without sugar. Do you believe any of that shit? But seriously, we even had a cookie swap at work and I didn’t even eat a single cookie or think about eating a cookie. I’m giving up sugar because I don’t want to die. Okay, that was dramatic, but I don’t…want to die. Or have an MRI with blood work but the latter I cannot control.
What does this mean for you? Well, it means not a lot of treats. I can hear you rejoicing, Rita! You’ll be seeing more savory things around these here parts. I even pulled a few recipes I’ve been eyeing to whet your appetite. See how nice I am?
We’ve really been trying to stick to a mostly paleo diet because I honestly feel so much better eating paleo and three of these recipies (if we hold those croutons) are paleo. OBVIOUSLY mac and cheese isn’t but it’s one of my favorite things. My grandma made the best mac and cheese ever and I wish it was a recipe and I wish I had learned how to make it. Like, so good. No sauce just some flour, salt, pepper, and sliced cheddar and shells. Grandma Rose was a cooking genius. But I digress.
I just saw this Kale Caesar Salad yesterday and I’m already dying to make it. I know it’s going to be delicious. Maybe you haven’t heard but roasted vegetables is the tits. It’s like the best thing ever and surely this roasted cauliflower will not disappoint. This goes without saying, but if you don’t like mac and cheese you’re not American and may. Braised anything is delish but something braised that I can eat a multitude of ways is great for lunches which is why I’m real excited about the Mexican Braised Beef.
So what do you all think? Are you okay with this change or will you cry diabetic tears on your keyboards?
I think it’s great and seriously I eat WAY too much sugar so I’m looking forward to your other recipes. I don’t eat fast food at all, but I still am overweight. My doctor said it’s because I eat too much sugary things that are “Fat Free” but are loaded up on calories & carbs. Good for you being healthy! Can’t wait to see what you find!

Hooray! I’ve been trying to give up sugar (down to a square or two of dark chocolate a day) and it is tough right now with holiday treats everywhere! Excited to hear how those recipes turn out…
Also- love that all of the “you may also like” posts are dessert.
I’ll cry I wish I had that sort of self control tears on my keyboard.
Oh and you’re doing this during the Holidays? You have great will power!
please start with that braised beef – I need a good recipe for that – I am def more a savory gal so this is a nice change!
Mmmm… I can’t wait!
I’ve been trying to have a lower carb (pretty much no carb) diet at night and I’ve definitely noticed a difference in how I feel. That Mexican beef looks awesome.
You are my inspiration!!! I wish i had the desire/will power to do this!!!
I so wish I had the willpower to do this. I have tried many times to cut sugar from my diet, and I’ve never lasted more than a week. Perhaps your sugarless recipes will inspire me!
Did you say you’re doing vegan gf dishes (wink wink) 🙂 I raise my hand to weekly veggie dishes!
Yeah yeah paleo and I’m super jelly of your willpower against sweets. You are a better woman than I.
Whyyy am I so weak!??! I can’t live without sugar or carbs… seriously..I think I would die. You are very strong.
Drueling over these.
I have had the same goal lately by the holidays are kicking my butt! Can’t seem to stay away.
Thanks for the motivation:)
If I gave up sugar…I would die. So I applaud you. I’d love to try the paleo thing. I did it for 2 days once. Right now my big thing is giving up the booze. I drink way too much beer and I’m afraid my body will start to resemble that of a 50 year old man….soooo yeah.
Thank you for sharing my Kale Caesar Salad! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did and good luck with no sugar – awesome!

You go girl! I don’t think I could do it- I love candy too much
I have given up sugar too! Not as easy as it sounds, especially because there are so many ways you are consuming sugar in the day that you may not even realize. Carbs turn into sugar instantly which is why you need to cut out high glycemic foods too! Keep it up–it”s hard work but totally worth it!
It all looks so yummy!

where the fuck do I sign up for a kale caesar salad? I’m hungry.
My boss actually went paleo and raves about it (mainly how much better he feels / more energy he has). LIke you I’m a sugar addict and am destined to get the ‘betes if I don’t knock it off soon. Long story short, i’m kinda buying into this whole non-sugar thing. The chances of me actually being able to do it = zero. But i’m anxious to follow/copy your recipes (like all of these that sound amazing) along the way. Good luck, my dear friend.
